Dubai to Jeddah by Car: Planning a Two-Day Road Journey
Dubai to Jeddah crosses the full width of the Arabian Peninsula, from the Gulf to the Red Sea. It is a journey to plan over two days rather than a single drive.
All travel guidesHow long is the drive from Dubai to Jeddah?
The published distance is about 2,000 km. Expect roughly 24 to 25 hours of driving and border time, so we recommend an overnight stop. Leaving Dubai before the morning traffic helps, and the border usually adds 30 to 60 minutes or more at busy times. Splitting the journey in Riyadh makes it far easier on everyone.
Where to stop overnight
Riyadh sits roughly halfway and is the natural place to break the journey. You arrive in the capital in the evening, rest, and continue west to Jeddah the next day. A continuous drive can be discussed if you prefer.
Which border crossing is used?
There is one border, at Al Ghuwaifat on the UAE side and Al Batha on the Saudi side. After UAE exit control at Al Ghuwaifat, you cross to the Saudi post at Al Batha by the free shuttle bus, or by local taxi for about AED or SAR 300 to 400, paid locally. Your Saudi driver is waiting on the other side.
What travel documents do I need?
Carry the passport linked to your visa or entry permission. Entry rules depend on nationality, residency and itinerary, so check current requirements with official immigration sources before you book. Border authorities decide admission, and travellers are responsible for their own visas.
Planning the trip
Pick‑ups cover all of Dubai, including Jumeirah, Dubai Hills, Business Bay, Dubai Marina and Dubai International Airport (DXB). In Jeddah we drop off in Al Hamra, Al Shati, Obhur, Al Rawdah or at King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED). Tell us where you want to stay overnight, how many people are travelling and how much luggage you carry, so both legs are planned around you.
