Route guide
Bahrain to Riyadh is a short, single-border run by Gulf standards: across the King Fahd Causeway, then west past Dammam and on to the capital. The same driver collects you in Bahrain and drops you in Riyadh, so there's no handover. Business travellers heading to meetings in Olaya or KAFD use it a lot, as do families visiting relatives for the weekend.
Travel time & distance
Duration
~5.5 hours
Distance
~450 km
Count on about 5.5 hours. The causeway sets the pace: Bahrain exit, Saudi entry and customs can take minutes or much longer at busy times. After that it's a steady highway drive, though Riyadh's rush hour can slow the final stretch if you arrive in the late afternoon.
A business trip by road
For a meeting in Riyadh, an early start from Bahrain usually works well, with the causeway quieter and the car arriving before the afternoon traffic. You can take calls, read or work on a laptop in the back. There's no check-in, there's room for your luggage within the vehicle's capacity, and the driver takes you right to the office door. Book the return for the same evening if it's a day trip.
Border crossing process
King Fahd Causeway
This route crosses the King Fahd Causeway between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Unlike other borders, the journey is completed in the same vehicle, without a vehicle change.
- 1Arrive at the Bahraini exit checkpoint - passports stamped out
- 2Drive across the causeway to the Saudi entry checkpoint
- 3Saudi visa and documentation processed
- 4Customs inspection and clearance
- 5Continue on the Dammam–Riyadh highway to Riyadh
On the causeway
The crossing happens in two steps on the causeway itself. First you're stamped out of Bahrain, then the car drives on to the Saudi checkpoint, where your visa and documents are checked and customs clears the vehicle. You stay with your driver throughout, with no change of car. Have passports and your Saudi visa details ready to hand before you reach the first booth.
From your door in Bahrain to Riyadh
We pick up in Manama, Seef, Juffair, Riffa, Amwaj Islands and at Bahrain International Airport (BAH). In Riyadh, drop‑off can be in Olaya, the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD), the Diplomatic Quarter, Al Malqa, or at King Khalid International Airport (RUH).
