What clients say
“The trip was long but the car was of excellent quality (a BMW 7 series). I had to change cars at the border between UAE and KSA where I had to take a taxi between the border controls, however, the 2nd car was already waiting for me on the other side of the border and the handover was very smooth, including luggage transfer.”
Route guide
From Bahrain, the road to Abu Dhabi runs back over the King Fahd Causeway, across Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province and into the UAE at Al Ghuwaifat. It suits people who would rather not fly a short hop: families with prams and suitcases, residents relocating to the capital, and business visitors with meetings on both sides. Expect about 8 hours, with one change of car at the Saudi-UAE border.
Travel time & distance
Duration
~8 hours
Distance
~700 km
The drive takes around 8 hours. Leaving Bahrain mid-morning tends to avoid the busiest causeway traffic, while the Saudi-UAE border slows at the end of long weekends and holidays. The last stretch into Abu Dhabi is usually quick, unless you arrive during the evening commute.
Bahrain to Abu Dhabi with children
Eight hours is long for small children, so plan for breaks. Rest stops are part of the trip, and the driver will pull in when someone needs it. Child seats are free on request. Bring snacks and something to keep little ones busy at the Saudi-UAE crossing, where everyone gets out with the luggage and waits in line before meeting the second car.
