Plan on about 8 hours door to door. The two border posts account for most of the variation, as queues at Al Ghuwaifat and on the causeway build at weekends and before public holidays. An early start from Abu Dhabi usually means lighter traffic at both crossings and arrival in Bahrain before dark.

How the two handovers work
At Al Ghuwaifat you step out of the UAE car with your luggage, clear exit control and cross to the Saudi post by free shuttle bus or taxi. After Saudi entry at Al Batha, your second driver is waiting. That car takes you through the Eastern Province to the King Fahd Causeway, where passports are checked again for Saudi exit and Bahrain entry, and then on to your address.
