“From scheduling to pickup to drop off the service was five stars all the way. I used them for a long trip between UAE and Saudi and everything, including the border car switch, was arranged and went smoothly.”
Route guide
Leaving Muscat for the UAE capital, the route runs north-west out of Oman and enters the Emirates near Al Ain. It is a common choice for Muscat residents with meetings in Abu Dhabi, for families returning after a holiday, and for anyone catching a flight from AUH. Your Omani driver takes you to the exit post. After passport control, a UAE driver meets you at the agreed handover point and takes you on to your final address.
Travel time & distance
Duration
~5–6 hours
Distance
~500 km
Allow 5 to 6 hours. The border at the Al Ain end is the main unknown, especially at the end of weekends and around holidays. Once across, Al Ain to Abu Dhabi is an easy run of about 1.5 hours, with traffic building as you reach the city.
Catching a flight from Abu Dhabi
Some passengers use this transfer to reach Zayed International Airport (AUH) for an onward flight. If that is you, leave a generous buffer. The border can add time on busy days, and you want to arrive with room for check-in rather than watching the clock. Tell us your flight time when you book and we can work out a sensible pick‑up time in Muscat.
Border crossing process
Al Ain / Mezyad
Your next driver meets you at the agreed handover point at the border. We confirm the exact point with you before the trip.
- 1Your Omani driver takes you to the Hafeet exit post
- 2Omani exit passport control
- 3UAE entry at Mezyad: passport, visa and customs checks
- 4Your next driver meets you at the agreed handover point and continues to Abu Dhabi
A second vehicle with a fresh driver will be waiting after the border to continue your journey. The entire process is coordinated in advance to minimise waiting times and ensure a seamless experience.
What to keep in your hand luggage
- Passports for everyone travelling, including children.
- Any UAE visa or residency documents you need for entry. Check the rules for your passport before you go.
- Water and a snack for the time at the checkpoints.
- Valuables and medicines, since your suitcase goes through customs and then moves to a second car.
