    Route guide

Muscat to Riyadh is a three-country trip: out of Oman at Hatta, across the UAE and into Saudi Arabia at Al Ghuwaifat / Al Batha. It is around 1,400 km and best done over two days. Omani families moving to Riyadh, professionals on longer assignments and travellers who want to bring everything with them take this route. We arrange a vehicle for each part of the journey and the handovers between them.

    Travel time & distance

    Duration

    ~2 days recommended

    Distance

    ~1,400 km

We recommend about 2 days, with an overnight stop in the UAE. Two border crossings, the mountain road around Hatta and the long Saudi highway make one day very tiring. Splitting it keeps both days manageable and lets you cross into Saudi Arabia rested.

    Why two days makes sense

Day one takes you from Muscat to the Hatta border and into the UAE, where you stop for the night. Day two runs across the UAE to Al Ghuwaifat, through the Saudi border at Al Batha and on to Riyadh. Two borders and 1,400 km in a single day is a lot to ask of anyone. We can suggest where to stop, and you choose the hotel.

    Border crossing process

Oman → UAE → Saudi Arabia

This route crosses 2 borders, each with its own arrangement. At Al Wajajah / Hatta: After exit control, a shuttle bus takes you between the two posts (a small fee may apply for the last leg, paid locally). Your next driver is waiting just past the border. At Al Ghuwaifat / Al Batha: Your first driver takes you to the exit post. After passport control, you cross to the other post by free shuttle bus or by taxi (about AED 300-400, paid locally). Your second driver is waiting on the other side.
