From Dubai, Bahrain is about 9 hours away by road, crossing the UAE-Saudi border and then the King Fahd Causeway. The route is popular with Dubai residents spending a weekend in Manama, with families visiting relatives, and with anyone who wants to bring more luggage than a short flight allows. Your driver collects you at home or your hotel, you switch to a second car at the Saudi border, and you are dropped at your exact address in Bahrain.

Expect around 9 hours, including the long drive west through Abu Dhabi emirate. Leaving Dubai before the morning rush saves time getting out of the city. Border queues are the main variable, and they are longest at weekends and at the start of public holidays.
Best time to leave Dubai
An early start, around 5 or 6 in the morning, gets you through the city before traffic builds and to the border while it is quieter. You then reach Bahrain in the afternoon. Overnight departures also work if you can sleep in the car. Avoid leaving on the eve of Eid or a long weekend unless your dates are fixed, as border queues can add significant time.

This route crosses 2 borders, each with its own arrangement. At Al Ghuwaifat / Al Batha: Your first driver takes you to the exit post. After passport control, you cross to the other post by free shuttle bus or by taxi (about AED 300-400, paid locally). Your second driver is waiting on the other side. At the King Fahd Causeway: You stay in the same car, with your luggage on board.
