    Route guide

Leaving the Eastern Province for Dubai, you head south-east to the Al Batha crossing, then on through Abu Dhabi to the city. A Saudi driver handles the first stretch. At the border you clear Saudi exit, cross to the UAE post by free shuttle bus or taxi, and a UAE driver picks you up for the rest of the way. Expat families heading to Dubai for a break, business travellers and people moving between the two cities all use it.

    Travel time & distance

    Duration

    ~9 hours

    Distance

    ~850 km

Budget about 9 hours. The Saudi stretch to the border is mostly open highway, and the crossing typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. The final hour depends on Dubai traffic, so arriving outside the evening rush makes the last part quicker.

A weekend in Dubai from the Eastern Province

Plenty of Eastern Province residents go to Dubai for a long weekend. A private transfer spares you nine hours at the wheel and the border paperwork, and you arrive rested. Set off on a weekday morning to stay ahead of the weekend traffic at the crossing, or go overnight and wake up in Dubai. If your dates are fixed, book both directions at once.

Getting from Al Batha to Al Ghuwaifat

    • Step one is the Saudi exit post, where your driver unloads the luggage and you are stamped out.
    • At Al Ghuwaifat, UAE immigration and a customs check follow.
    • Waiting beyond the post is your UAE driver, ready to load up and head for Dubai.
