    Route guide

There's no direct road from Qatar to Bahrain, so the drive loops south-west into Saudi Arabia, up through the Eastern Province and across the King Fahd Causeway. That's two border crossings in about 350 km. The same car and driver stay with you from your door in Doha to your address in Bahrain, which takes most of the effort out of a route that sounds harder than it is.

    Travel time & distance

    Duration

    ~6–7 hours

    Distance

    ~350 km

Allow about 6 to 7 hours. Two sets of exit and entry checks, first at Abu Samra and Salwa, then on the causeway, are what stretch it. Causeway traffic is the big variable: Thursday evenings and holiday weekends tend to be busier, so a weekday start is usually smoother.

Best time to set off from Doha

An early morning start gets you to Salwa before the day's traffic builds and onto the causeway in daylight. If you can, avoid leaving late on a Thursday, when the causeway fills with weekend traffic heading into Bahrain. During Eid and school holidays, both crossings get busier, so book ahead and give yourself extra time at the end of the day.

    Border crossing process

Qatar → Saudi Arabia → King Fahd Causeway

This route involves coordinated border crossings between Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain. Passengers exit the vehicle at each checkpoint to complete immigration and customs procedures. We organise vehicles at each border to ensure smooth transitions.

    1. 1Arrive at the Qatari exit checkpoint at Abu Samra - passports stamped out
    2. 2Enter Saudi Arabia at Salwa - Saudi transit processed
    3. 3Drive through the Eastern Province to the King Fahd Causeway
    4. 4Arrive at the Saudi exit checkpoint on the causeway - passports stamped out
    5. 5Enter Bahrain - Bahrain visa processed
    6. 6Continue to your destination in Bahrain

Two borders, no change of car

Because the car stays with you, the borders are mostly a matter of waiting your turn. At Abu Samra you're stamped out of Qatar, then Saudi transit is processed at Salwa. After a drive through the Eastern Province, you're stamped out of Saudi Arabia on the causeway and complete Bahrain entry at the far end. Keep everyone's passports within reach rather than packed away, as you'll need them four times.

Pick‑up in Doha, drop‑off in Bahrain
