Dubai to Kuwait by Car: Two Borders, One Long Day

Dubai to Kuwait City is one of the longest single-day road journeys we run. The route crosses Saudi Arabia from the UAE border at Al Ghuwaifat to the Kuwaiti frontier at Al Khafji and Nuwaiseeb, so the day is shaped by two borders as much as by the driving.

How long is the drive from Dubai to Kuwait?

The published distance is about 1,250 km. The trip takes about 16 to 17 hours. The two borders account for a good part of that, especially the UAE-Saudi crossing at Al Ghuwaifat and Al Batha. An early start from Dubai gets you to Kuwait late in the evening. Rest stops on the Saudi highway are built into the day.

    The route through Saudi Arabia

From Dubai the road runs west along the coast past Abu Dhabi to the Saudi border. In Saudi Arabia the journey follows the Eastern Province highways north past Dammam and Jubail to the Kuwaiti frontier. Most of the drive is open, well-surfaced highway.

First border: Al Ghuwaifat to Al Batha

After UAE exit control at Al Ghuwaifat, you cross to the Saudi post at Al Batha by the free shuttle bus, or by local taxi for about AED or SAR 300 to 400, paid locally. Your Saudi driver is waiting on the other side.

Second border: Al Khafji to Nuwaiseeb

Your Saudi driver takes you to the Al Khafji exit post. After Saudi exit control and Kuwaiti entry at Al Nuwaiseeb, your next driver meets you at the agreed handover point and continues to Kuwait City. We confirm the exact point with you before the trip.

What travel documents do I need?

You need entry permission for both Saudi Arabia, as a transit country, and Kuwait. Carry the passport linked to your visa or entry permission. Entry rules depend on nationality, residency and itinerary, so check current requirements with official immigration sources before you book. Border authorities decide admission, and travellers are responsible for their own visas.

    Planning the day

An early start from Dubai is the usual plan, with rest stops on the Saudi highway built into the day. Keep passports, medication and essentials in a small bag, because you move between vehicles at each border. Driving times are estimates, not guaranteed arrival times.
