    Route guide

Leaving Abu Dhabi for Doha by road means two borders in one day: out of the UAE into Saudi Arabia, then out of Saudi Arabia into Qatar. It sounds like a lot. In practice it is a well-worn corridor used by families visiting relatives, staff moving between offices and anyone with more luggage than an airline allows. We collect you at home, plan the car change at the UAE-Saudi crossing and finish at your door in Doha.

    Travel time & distance

    Duration

    ~6–7 hours

    Distance

    ~600 km

Plan on about 6-7 hours door to door. The biggest variable is queueing at the two borders, which is heavier on weekends and holidays. An early start from Abu Dhabi usually means quieter checkpoints and an afternoon arrival in Doha.

Who makes this trip from Abu Dhabi

Many of our Abu Dhabi to Doha passengers are families with children and a boot full of bags, where flying means excess baggage fees and two airport runs. Others are residents on a long weekend, or professionals splitting time between the two capitals. Some simply prefer to leave from their own front door at a time that suits them, rather than build the day around a departure board.

    Border crossing process

UAE → Saudi Arabia → Qatar

This route crosses 2 borders, each with its own arrangement. At Al Ghuwaifat / Al Batha: Your first driver takes you to the exit post. After passport control, you cross to the other post by free shuttle bus or by taxi (about AED 300-400, paid locally). Your second driver is waiting on the other side. At Salwa / Abu Samra: You stay in the same car, with your luggage on board.

    3. 3Cross to the Saudi post at Al Batha by free shuttle bus or taxi (about AED 300-400, paid locally)

    6. 6Saudi exit passport control at Salwa, staying with your car
    7. 7Qatari entry at Abu Samra: passport, visa and customs checks
    8. 8Continue in the same car to Doha

A second vehicle with a fresh driver will be waiting after the border to continue your journey. The entire process is coordinated in advance to minimise waiting times and ensure a seamless experience.

    What happens at each checkpoint

    • Al Ghuwaifat: you leave the UAE car, get stamped out and take your luggage with you.
