    Route guide

Abu Dhabi to Kuwait is one of the longest single-day drives we run, roughly 1,150 km up the eastern side of Saudi Arabia. People book it to move house, to bring a car's worth of belongings without paying for excess baggage, or simply because they prefer the road. You leave from your door in Abu Dhabi, switch cars at the Saudi border, and reach Kuwait City around 15 to 16 hours later.

    Travel time & distance

    Duration

    ~15–16 hours

    Distance

    ~1,150 km

Allow 15 to 16 hours. The two borders, Al Ghuwaifat on the way out of the UAE and Al Khafji into Kuwait, add the most uncertainty. Several rest stops break up the long Saudi stretch. Many travellers leave before dawn or overnight, so more of the driving happens in cooler, quieter hours.

Who drives to Kuwait instead of flying

    • Families relocating with more luggage than an airline allows
    • Passengers who dislike flying or want to avoid airport queues
    • Groups who share one van, since the price is per vehicle rather than per seat
    • Kuwaiti and Emirati families heading home for the holidays with gifts and shopping
    • Anyone who wants to leave at night and sleep through much of the Saudi stretch
