    Route guide

From Kuwait, the drive to Doha runs south down the Gulf side of Saudi Arabia before turning into Qatar at Abu Samra. It's about 750 km with two border crossings, so it fills a whole day. Kuwait residents use it for family visits and holidays in Qatar, and for moves where a suitcase allowance isn't enough. Partway through you switch to a second car and driver, after clearing the Kuwait-Saudi border.

    Travel time & distance

    Duration

    ~10–11 hours

    Distance

    ~750 km

The trip takes around 10 to 11 hours. Leaving Kuwait early helps you reach Nuwaiseeb before queues build. The Saudi exit at Salwa and Qatar entry at Abu Samra come towards the end of the day, followed by the last drive into Doha. Holiday weekends can add time at both crossings.

    A full day with children

Ten hours in the car with children needs a little planning. Child seats are free on request, and the driver stops for breaks on the Saudi stretch. Pack a day bag with snacks, chargers, a tablet and a change of clothes, and keep it separate from the main luggage so it's easy to carry at the border. An early start means the kids sleep through the first part.

    Border crossing process

Kuwait → Saudi Arabia → Qatar

This route crosses 2 borders, each with its own arrangement. At Al Nuwaiseeb / Al Khafji: Your next driver meets you at the agreed handover point at the border. We confirm the exact point with you before the trip. At Salwa / Abu Samra: You stay in the same car, with your luggage on board.

    1. 1Your Kuwaiti driver takes you to the Al Nuwaiseeb exit post
    2. 2Kuwaiti exit passport control
    3. 3Saudi entry at Al Khafji: passport, visa and customs checks
    4. 4Your next driver meets you at the agreed handover point and continues to the Salwa / Abu Samra border
    5. 5Saudi exit passport control at Salwa, staying with your car
    6. 6Qatari entry at Abu Samra: passport, visa and customs checks
    7. 7Continue in the same car to Doha

A second vehicle with a fresh driver will be waiting after the border to continue your journey. The entire process is coordinated in advance to minimise waiting times and ensure a seamless experience.

    The car change in practice

At the border your first driver stops at the exit post. You take your luggage, clear passport and customs control, and meet your second driver at the agreed handover point, which we confirm before the trip. It's simple, but it helps to pack in a way you can manage yourself. Fewer, larger cases are easier to move than a pile of loose bags and shopping.
