Route guide
Heading from Kuwait to Muscat, you leave at Nuwaiseeb, travel the length of eastern Saudi Arabia, cross the UAE and enter Oman at Hatta. It's about 1,600 km and 15 to 16 hours, with three borders. Kuwait residents use it for long holidays in Oman, and families moving to Muscat use it to bring their belongings by road. Most travellers split the drive with a night in Saudi Arabia or the UAE.
Travel time & distance
Duration
~15–16 hours
Distance
~1,600 km
Plan on 15 to 16 hours of travel, best split over two days. The Saudi stretch is the longest single leg. Border waits at Nuwaiseeb, Al Batha and Hatta vary, and Eid or the start of school holidays can stretch them. An early start from Kuwait helps you reach the overnight stop in daylight.
Holidays in Oman by road
Driving lets you arrive in Muscat with your own luggage, beach gear and anything else you'd rather not check in. Families often time the trip for Eid or school holidays, which are also the busiest days at the borders, so book early and leave at a quiet hour if you can. A van suits larger families, and child seats are free on request.
