Route guide
Muscat to Doha crosses four countries: Oman, the UAE, a stretch of Saudi Arabia and finally Qatar. At around 1,050 km and three borders, it is a two-day trip for most people. Travellers who book it are usually relocating between Gulf postings, driving home to Qatar after a holiday, or bringing household belongings they would rather not ship. You start from your door in Muscat and change cars at the borders along the way.
Travel time & distance
Duration
~2 days recommended
Distance
~1,050 km
Allow two days. Three crossings, at Hatta, Al Ghuwaifat and Salwa, make a single day very long. Most travellers stop overnight in the UAE or Saudi Arabia. Holiday weekends can slow every border, so leaving mid-week tends to be quicker.
Before you set off
- Check the UAE, Saudi and Qatar entry rules for your passport
- Pack a small overnight bag so the main suitcases can stay closed at the stopover
- Keep passports in hand luggage, as they come out at every border
- Charge phones and power banks the night before
- Note your stopover hotel address so the driver can plan the next morning
